Students at Ballarat Specialist School can receive access to both a community based swimming program outside of school grounds and a dedicated hydrotherapy program which operates within school grounds.
The school’s hydrotherapy pool has hoisting facilities to promote access for students with physical support needs. Our AUSTSWIM trained staff and allied health staff coordinate, supervise and support sessions for eligible students. Students accessing this program will have specific goals within one of the following categories, as described in our hydropool policy:
aquatic physiotherapy sessions for students with mobility difficulties (as assessed by the physiotherapist or exercise physiologist)
water awareness and water safety sessions for early year students
sensory pool programs for students with sensory processing difficulties, including engagement, communication and self-regulation difficulties (as assessed by occupational therapists)
